Body + Spirit = Joy

20090831delicateself1

Another Psychic Question Monday with an interesting question for today:

Our emotional well-being is quite important, but how do we know we have a soul, separate from the body? It seems to me that we ARE our bodies.  -Carrie

Carrie is referring to this post on the Los Angeles Examiner, which is also another version of last Monday’s post here, in which I state something that has become true to me after reading it in myself and others for over ten years now, body and spirit = joy.

You are more than a body, you are a spirit too. The wonderful thing about your spirit is that it is unique to you. Nobody else can know you as well as you know yourself, because you are original, one of a kind in all of time. It is the spirit of you that creates first, before you manifest the results.

There is no ‘proving’ spirit, and I will not attempt to do so here. You get to prove it to yourself by having it available to you, and by listening to that part of you. It has nothing to do with religion, or following someone else’s rules about what to believe. It has to do with knowing yourself. There is more to you than you may have allowed yourself to know, and you are bigger than you may know.

Many people need evidence that something actually exists in order to have it be real for them. Scientific proof is a popular thing these days. But what about: music that touches a part of you that is deeper than the body, art that reaches you in a similar fashion, an evening sky that creates a moment of magic within. Any healing practitioner can tell you that if someone wants to heal, they will more likely do so, while those who do not, won’t.

What about the longings deep inside of you to become, to have?  Some of these longings may not make sense to you, but they are there nonetheless. They may not be practical, or accepted by your family or group. But they tug at you. This is your spirit talking.

Music, nature, beauty and art all say hello to the spirit. This is the greatest healing one can experience, the hello to the spirit. When your spirits have been lifted, it translates to healing for the body. Your emotions, which belong to the body, can heal. Heal the spirit, and the spirit can heal the body.

What I have learned from the work I’ve done for the past ten years, is that once someone begins to get his or her spirit back into present time, and into the body, life becomes more joyful and real. Healing begins to happen. Feeling scattered is being scattered: your spirit can be in many places at once. Get yourself back here into the present, which is where your body is, and you heal on every level of yourself. Body + Spirit = Joy.

Psychic Question Monday will address a question on many people’s minds these days: Why Meditate? Here are a number of good reasons why you may want to do so.

1. Vanity – meditation can improve your looks. By grounding and releasing the stress and other energies you take on in your daily life, you will also relax your body and release energies that can prematurely age you. You will look and feel better. Meditating regularly helps you become more present, which is an attractive quality to have. Notice how I started with this one?

2. Get to know the most important person in your life – you. This is the most valuable information you can ever have. When you know yourself well, know what you want and need, it becomes easier for you to act in your own interests. We are living in a world with many distractions that can keep us from ourselves. Daily meditation can help you find your way back to you. This is where your answers are, within you.

3. A stronger immune system. By letting go of whatever you pick up that isn’t you, you release energy that gets in the way of your own healthy vibration. If you aren’t taking on what everyone else has got, you can more easily stay healthy and happy.

4. Greater emotional health. When you give time to yourself every day, time away from the cares, worries, and demands of the outside world, you are able to let go of the emotional demands you have picked up from everyone else too. You will feel better, from within. This also contributes to #3, a stronger immune system.

5. It’s good for your heart. Google ‘meditation and heart health’ and you’ll see for yourself. Scientists and doctors are discovering what practitioners of meditation have known for thousands of years. Meditate for your heart. You can release pain and other harmful energies from your heart. If you are undergoing a doctor’s care for heart issues, add daily meditation to your health care regime.

6. Slow down, you move too fast. Meditation can help you remember to enjoy the simple things in life. The kind of meditation I prefer is the grounded, in the body kind. Practicing this can regularly help you remember you have a body, slow down enough to listen to it, and heal yourself deeply as a result.

7. Find your creative streak. Each person has the ability to create. Sometimes it can be hard to create what you want because there are so many demands to take care of other things or people, and such resistance to creating for yourself. By giving yourself time alone to meditate regularly, you will begin to open up that creative part of yourself more. What’s more, you can start to see what it is you actually want to create.

8. Meditation helps you listen better. This can help you to find your own answers. If you are confused about what it is you want to do, have, or be, meditate to find your own answers. One way to do this is to close your eyes, breathe and relax, and simply be. Allow your answers to come to you. Don’t try to solve anything. Listen to your own inner thoughts, intuition, wisdom. Yes, you do have those things.

9. Body and Spirit = Joy. You are more than a body, you are spirit too. Your body is in one place, while your spirit can be in many places at once. By grounding and getting more of you back into your body, you can more easily and effortlessly create what it is you want in your life. It is easier to find your own bliss, your own joy, by bringing yourself back into the present time.

10. Meditating feels good. Grounding your body and letting go of other energies feels great. It can lighten you, while also helping you feel safer and more connected to your body and the earth. It becomes easier to feel good, when you are grounded to the earth.

Psychic Question Monday received a special question for the upcoming season:

The holidays are coming up, and those of us (meaning me – hah) who are going through major growth and changes are fearful of starting anything big or new during this crazy time. How do I maintain my growth spiral with all the temptations and distractions of nutty family stories, friends parties, … other events, fattening foods and alcohol, not to mention other people’s expectations? How do I remain grounded? It’s challenging enough already trying to get grounded. This seems like it will be even harder in the coming two months.

It’s like this every year, isn’t it? Oh no! the Holidays are coming! It certainly doesn’t help that they start before Halloween, in the retail world that is. Things are especially nutty this year, due to all of the major shifts and explosions going on now. The energy continues to roll and rumble, the changes march on. Look at what is going on today: good affordable health care is at stake, job losses continue, there is a huge battle for the control of resources in the US and on this planet, unnecessary wars continue to rage while also tapping the resources needed to create a healthy happy life for many. Everything feels a bit unreal this year. Business as usual.

Add to all of this the emotional stress of trying to have the perfect holiday. Maybe you aren’t the one who requires a perfect holiday, but are affected by those who do. That looks to me like some of the energy you may be handling now. You don’t have to resist it, or figure it all out. Maybe doing the opposite is the healing for your holidays this year.

Do you remember a time when it all felt fun, kind of like magic? When what was most important was what mattered: the people you love, a kind of excitement, the inner knowing that something special was here? When there was no effort about any of this, just a special feeling? Perhaps you last had this kind of feeling as a child. This is what will help you to get through this time: remembering this feeling for yourself. Even if people all around you are spazzing out and needing a lot of attention, you can still be amused and let it roll off your back. Yes, like a duck.

Another thing you may want to try is this: sit still and think of how you want your holidays to go this year. Yes, they are yours too. If you have been losing your space during the holidays, perhaps you forgot all about them also being yours. Create an image of you having fun doing what you want to do this holiday season. Forget about the demands coming from others. These are not necessary to answer, and can often take a lot of your energy with them. To have what you want, you need to be honest about what it is you want. Then have it.

You honestly don’t need to spend two months of each year giving up your space to the holidays out there. Bring the holidays you want inside of you, that is to say, make your holidays your reality. Give yourself time to sit and ground. Be honest about how much time and space you can give to others. Take care of yourself. This is a special time of year, and you do not need to begin another new year wishing and vowing you’ll do things differently next year. The consciousness you grow this year can change how things go for you from now on. That is far more important than rushing around like mad while also feeling guilty that perhaps you didn’t do, have, give enough. You already are enough, just by being.

As an adult, you can begin to create your own holiday rituals, if you haven’t already done so. Maybe one of the new rituals you create is that you get to actually enjoy your own holidays.

The Art of Listening

20090909listening1

Have you ever sat still and simply listened, engaged yourself in the act of active listening? Not listening to the many sounds and noises out in the world, but to the sounds within you. If you meditate, you may already do this. Sitting still is the first part, going within and listening the next. It’s actually a very simple activity, one that will give you incredible insights into the most valuable resource you have, namely yourself.

There is a constant demand these days to “look busy”. If you remember a time when folks thought that new technology would create more free time, you know that just the opposite has actually happened. Nowadays one is expected to be on call and available 24/7. It takes some doing to untangle oneself from this demand, to create the space to have space for you. Meditation can help you to create this space.

Just finding time to sit still and be, is beyond the ability of many people, who are stretched to the limits with “to-do’s”. The noise of the world piles up, until one feels so full of other sounds, voices, demands, that it is hard to hear one’s own voice. Listening to that inner voice is the key to uncovering wealth within. This is where the true treasure lives. By slowing down, even for a few minutes a day, you can create wellness in a way that nothing else can do. An interesting effect of doing this is that it becomes easier to hear others speak, to listen to the words, to hear music, once you have learned to listen to yourself.

Some people think they cannot meditate because they can’t still their minds. They have the idea that if one is going to meditate, it must be done perfectly. You must already be perfectly calm and still, otherwise you’re doing it wrong and it’s a waste. There is an idea that meditation must be taken seriously, or it won’t work. Nothing could be further from the truth.

If you approach your meditation with a sense of humor and play, and let go of the need to do it perfectly, you will get much more out of it. Start by listening to your breath, to your body, without judgment. There’s already enough judgment floating around out in the world without you dragging some of it inside of you.

Listening without judgment is an art. Listening to another without judgment is a gift. Listening to yourself without judgment is the greatest thing you can do for yourself.

I have a new Blog Talk Radio Show: Psychic Everyday, broadcasting live on Tuesdays from 3:00-4:00PM PST.  Join me for an often amused look at being psychic, spiritual growth, and the fine art of free will. Having What You Want

20090718gourd

It’s Psychic Question Monday again, and here is today’s Psychic Question:

I have been experiencing a high level of Havingness lately, but when it comes to my deepest desires I don’t believe I can really manifest them for myself. Yet I keep proving that I can do these things. Where is the disconnect?

‘Havingness’, for those of you who are wondering, is the ability to create what it is you want to have in your life. It is also the ability to have what you already have. If you have been unable to manifest something you truly want, it doesn’t mean you aren’t capable of creating or manifesting it. It just means that there is energy in the way of you having it. The energy might be a lie in your space that says it isn’t possible to do this, nobody in your family has ever been able to have it so why should you? What if you get this thing and your friends get mad because they didn’t get their dreams too?

I’ve seen groups of people make agreements that nobody gets to succeed until everyone does. It’s not a conscious agreement, by any means. And it doesn’t really work. What happens is that nobody gets what they want. But, when you move ahead of the rest, you may handle a bit of resistance about stepping out. Others may go into pain or get angry, and you really can’t do anything about that. Unless you decide to step back again and wait for the permission to have what you want.

What this reader is asking has to do with being able to have what she wants to have in her life, even though she is handling energy that makes it seem like it’s not possible or real. She has already proven to herself that she is very capable of creating what she wants, yet there is a resistance in her space that says she “can’t have it all”, or in this case, can’t have what she really wants.

In order to have what you really want, in your heart of hearts, you must make it your priority. It must be true for you, not what someone else has decided is okay for you to have. If you have been holding yourself back for someone else, you can change that and focus on your own life. What you focus your attention on is where you create. As soon as you do this, you may hit varying degrees of the following: exhilaration, excitement, a sense of possibilities, invalidation, fear, hopelessness, demands to get real and grow up, a feeling of unreality, etc etc etc…

What is so beautiful about this economic downturn and recession, is that after losing their jobs, and without any other jobs available, a large number of people have begun to create something new for themselves. Even to follow dreams they had long ago given up on, as not being real.

Now, I’m not saying that you have to lose your job or be at the brink of any disasters in order to create your life the way you want to. We have all had variations of the kind of programming that decrees what is possible and correct to do. Our families have all had different kinds of permissions for this. Many artists and musicians will tell tales of not being accepted or respected by their families until they succeeded. How many dentists have told you that their fathers disowned them when they enrolled in Dental College? I think you get the idea.

There may be a lot of judgment on your dream. Time to move it out of there! You could be in judgment too, and may need to stop that. In order to get what you want to have, in your heart of hearts, it is time to get very real and make it your priority. If you want something so very much, it wants you too.

One more thought: What is the world losing out on because you are not giving completely of yourself? More on that in another post.

Next Monday I have a very special Psychic Question Monday, dealing with the upcoming holidays. Don’t miss it!

Going Your Own Way

Perfect_Purple

There are times when it may be necessary to step away from the perceptions, desires, judgments, needs, dramas, personal stuff, of others… in order to see your own clearly. This can literally be an eye opening experience for you. It’s hard to get to really know yourself, if you are constantly matched to other people.

Some people are fine with this, the matching that is. It makes them nervous to be solo, to go it alone. Stepping away from the group can be risky. Someone might get their feelings hurt. What if you anger someone when doing this?

What is interesting to see is who you’ve been matched to on this journey. You may not even be aware that you are matched to anyone, until you step away, that is. As soon as you do this, you will very likely hear about it. Where have you been? How could you step away? Why did you change? Others may take it personally, feel dissed, when it is not about them at all. Perhaps you’ve been healing someone, and you stop doing so. That person may get upset. There is nothing you can do about that, unless you want to go back and heal them again.

Perhaps it begins as a feeling within you, an intuition. You just want to be alone, have some quiet time, heal yourself, create something new. You don’t feel like being around everyone else’s stuff all the time. You are seeking some peace and quiet to find this thing you know is there. It’s not about the others, it’s yours personally, which doesn’t need to be explained to anyone else. If you have ever outgrown an old role, moved past an old comfort zone, a former you that no longer fits, you have left people behind. This is all about you finding yourself, in a new and more wonderful way.

So many people have a hard time doing this. It is a difficult thing to step away and have one’s autonomy with the pack. To live your own true life, it is important to make sure you are able to create for yourself, without needing others to approve or validate. Yes, validation is a wonderful thing, and it’s nice to get feedback. Yes, we do need each other. However, if your ability to have what it is that you want is based on what others think or feel about that, you may not get what you want. You may not even get to know what that is, if you keep asking for permission before going off to find it.

There will always be demands that you find your answers based on what the “experts” have said is real, true, or even possible. Whether those experts are your teachers, counselors, religious leaders, bosses, parents, friends… if you want to find your own answers to your life, you must be the expert on yourself. The best you can do is stay on track and be true to yourself.

Learning to listen to your own body, intuition, and feelings will make it easier to find your own answers. The only person who can write your own true story, is you. You are the expert.

‘Healer, Heal Yourself’ is my latest workshop, designed to help you learn to do just that. Become aware of your own healing energy, and learn how to use it for yourself. This workshop has been rescheduled and will take place Friday, October 23, in West Hollywood, CA. For details and to register, go to this link: Healer, Heal Yourself Workshop.
