Detox your energy this spring

Spring is a traditional time to go on a detox diet, which can help you to shed any leftover winter energy that, literally, weighs you down.

Why not take it a step further, and get to the core of where many of those toxins come from in the first place? Hint: it’s all energy!

When you give yourself an energy detox, you also detox physically. Everything begins with energy, and you are made of energy, body and spirit. Taking on energies that are toxic for you, such as stress, invalidation, anxiety, pain – will create an imbalance inside of you. This affects your body’s health, not to mention your overall sense of happiness and wellness, as well as your ability to create.

Each of us needs energy in order to live, be healthy, and create our lives to be how we want them to be.

If you find yourself feeling ‘full’ after being around particularly stressful people or situations, and if the energy you’ve taken on feels toxic to you, it’s not your own energy. This is like eating a meal that disagrees with you; rather than create a pleasant sense of well being within you, it may cause indigestion. If you’ve taken on energy that doesn’t agree with you, it’s not your energy to begin with. You can’t use it to create with, because it’s not yours. What’s more, it can get in the way of you enjoying the truth of your own energy.

It benefits you to become aware of which energies are yours, and which are not. This is consciousness.

Your own energy is the very best energy you could possibly run yourself on. You’d never fill an expensive sports car with the wrong grade of fuel, one that’s too heavy for the car. It wouldn’t run well, if at all. But you may have tried to run your body on energies that make it, and you, feel sluggish, tired, unhappy, invalidated, or in pain. None of those energies I just mentioned are your true vibration, by the way. If you’ve been giving your energy away all of your life, or taking on denser energies that aren’t you, you may begin to feel like there is something wrong with your energy.

Many people believe that losing their energy as they get older is a natural part of aging. They expect to have the same physical ailments that their parents did, and point to genetics as being predetermined and a given. Meanwhile, they have forgotten what it feels like to run on their own energy. They may be running on a toxic blend of stress-pain-invalidation, backed up by pain killers to dull the roar within.

It doesn’t have to be this way! You can quickly and very easily begin to heal yourself deeply, by taking care of your energy in a more conscious way.

Here are some suggestions for your Spring Energy Detox:

1. Rest, especially if you never do. Listen to your body and give it enough sleep, as well as quality time off.

2. Forgive. Let go of those toxic grudges, that sickening anger, or any exhausting energies you’ve held onto while also holding onto how someone hurt or wronged you.

3. Learn to ground yourself and begin to release energies you’ve taken on that are not you.

4. Meditate daily. Turn off your phone and other distractions, give yourself some quiet time and space so that you can go within and begin getting to better know the most important person in your life – you.

5. Say nice things to yourself and to your body. If you’ve had a tape loop of negative self criticism running through you, get rid of it.

6. Listen to your intuition. Follow it, and validate yourself when your intuition is right.

7. Get rid of mean people. Why waste energy on abusive, negative, and punishing people? If you do this, others around you will also find the courage to do the same thing. When negativity no longer has an audience, it goes away.

8. Let go of what you can’t solve. Just drop it. If you’ve been unable to solve a problem, it may not be yours to begin with.

9. Stop being responsible for everyone else, except for yourself. If you are busily running around saving the world, but forgot about you, you may be avoiding doing your own work.

10. Be in present time. Everything happens now, and now is the only time you can change, choose, create, and be in your body. It’s a miracle to be in the present time!

When you forgive someone for anything, you take your own power back. You cease being a victim. You become a beautiful example of the healing power of forgiveness. 3. Gratitude  ~  By now the healing properties attributed to having an ‘attitude of gratitude’ are well known. When you speak the language of energy

Energy is a language you were born knowing how to speak. This is a language we all know, though each of us might  have a different way of understanding what it means. Each person has a unique perspective and experience.

I may have a different way of feeling, seeing, or knowing energy than you. It’s pointless to try to prove energy to anyone else, because of this uniqueness. Trying to prove energy to someone is like trying to prove what you feel. Your feelings are your experience, and while you can communicate them, you can’t expect others to completely understand your experience of feeling. They have their own experience, which you may not completely understand.

You were born already equipped to speak the language of energy, because you are energy. Your body is made of energy. You as a being are energy, spirit.

As an energy, there is just one of you; you are unique in all of creation. This is why it’s important for you to know yourself: the rest of us need you to be you, because nobody else can replace you. When you find the truth of who you are, you heal yourself and become a healing for others, just by being. It becomes easier for you to create your creations, and live your life.

If you think there’s something wrong with you or with your energy, you can go through life feeling flawed, as if you’re missing something. When things in your life don’t go the way you’d like them to, it can be easy to blame yourself and think your energy is bad or wrong. Another word for this is ‘invalidation’. If you think you or your energy are wrong, you are invalidated. You’ve forgotten that you have value.

It is when you have your own energy within yourself, and when you can begin to get more of your energy back again, that you start to become validated again. There is nothing wrong with your own energy, but if you are walking around holding onto all kinds of energies you picked up from other people and events, it’s more difficult to have enough of your own energy to do what it is you want to do. You forget your own value, or don’t get to know it, when you become a storehouse for energies that aren’t yours. It can feel like you’re carrying a burden around with you. All of the energy that isn’t you affects your body. When you take on other energies, they affect your body’s energy and health.

So, how do you change this? How do you begin to learn who you are, and to know your own energy? How do you get validated?

Getting to know yourself begins with you taking the time to go within yourself, and to begin to communicate with yourself, in order to learn more about what is true for you, who you are, and what you honestly want for your life. Meditation is a valuable tool you can use to become more aware of who you really are. Grounded meditation will help you to change your energy, and change your life. When you take the time to get to know the most important person in your life better – yourself – you make brilliant and lasting changes. It’s worth it!

Amusement is a powerful energy

As a vibration of spiritual energy, amusement ranks high as one of the most valuable, powerful, and healing energies you can work with.

Contrary to popular belief, being in touch with your spirit does not require you to be serious, as in ‘not amused’. Actually, the opposite is true. When you begin to find amusement with yourself and your life, as well as other people, you are getting somewhere. Seriously.

As a spiritual energy, here’s what amusement gives to you; your body likes this energy, so it makes it easier for your body to feel good. You can even find your amusement with having a body. Emotionally, amusement is a far easier energy to be in than stress, pain or drama. It is very difficult for outside forces to control you when you are amused. Challenges can seem a bit easier if you can find your amusement with them. The bigger picture is more evident, perspective has been regained.

Especially, and this cannot be stressed enough, though not at all seriously… especially if you are in resistance to someone or something, you can free yourself with a simple dose of amusement. When you are able to laugh at the ridiculousness of any situation you are “in to win”, any battle you’ve sunk your teeth into and are having a hard time releasing yourself from, anywhere you know you’ve been ‘gotten’ by someone who is throwing a game on the table and it’s not yours: you have found your amusement, and suddenly you can see more clearly.

You might want to get started on your own amusement portfolio today. A good place to start is to find out: what makes you laugh out loud? What gives you joy, makes you happy, helps you get away from the prevailing miserable wisdom? What helps you to stay in your body, remember why life is good, find your gratitude for being alive?

Laughter is healing, and a smile does wonders for your health, relationships, looks, AND personality. If you don’t believe me, ask the people who you are around all day long.

What does color mean to a clairvoyant?

Clairvoyance is the ability to see energy clearly. The energy might look like color, pictures, symbols, and so on.

There isn’t really one particular meaning for each color, though certain energies may show up frequently as certain colors. A skilled clairvoyant can tell if the color they are seeing in your space is your energy, or something that isn’t you.

You may have quite a lot of energy vibrations in your space at one time, and many of them may not, in fact, be you. The vibrations that are you will work easily inside of you, while those that aren’t can create distress, effort, and discomfort in your space. (Your space is defined as your body and aura.)

Here is a list of colors in order of their vibration in the energy spectrum, from lowest to highest, and what they can represent or mean. Remember that this is an individual thing as well. Each person’s unique energy will show up as colors true to that person, and the colors may change as the person does. You probably won’t be at the same colors your entire life, but may be partial to one or several. Chances are, if you like a color and feel it emotionally, it’s also one of yours.

Brown ~ Earthy, grounded, lower vibration. Brown is often associated with the earth and earth energy. It can be a healing vibration to match to when your body doesn’t feel real.

Red ~ Fiery, anger, movement, passion. If red is one of your favorite or frequent colors, it may have to do with the level of passion you have for life. Red is also a lower vibration, closer to the earth. Some earthy energies are reddish. Red that isn’t yours can be someone else’s anger or other energy.

Orange ~ A brilliant fun happy color. Depending on its tone, it can be earthy, creative, vibrant, joyful, conscious, healing. Orange that isn’t your energy and is in your space can make you feel crowded and overwhelmed.

Yellow ~ Sunny, happy, brilliant, effortless. Your own energy at yellow can feel bright and happy. Other higher loud yellows that are in your space can feel sharp and uncomfortable.

Green ~ Growth, healing, change, movement, peaceful. When you are running a lot of green energy, it looks like you’re in the middle of big changes and growth. Green is also a big healing color. If you’re carrying green that isn’t yours, you may be being responsible for other people’s growth and changes, which can become very uncomfortable in your space.

Blue ~ Certainty, clarity, calm, peace. When you’re working with a lot of blue, it can be healing for you too. Having certainty about who you are and what you want to do, can also sometimes be seen as blue, though any color in the rainbow could be the same. Muddy blue isn’t yours.

Purple ~ As a vibration, purple is inspirational, spiritual, and also one of the highest vibrations in the rainbow. It can have to do with creativity, consciousness, high levels of growth. However, if you feel like you’re floating, you may want to move from purple down to brown or another lower vibration, in order to reground yourself to the earth and into your body.

Gold ~ This is the highest color vibration you can work with in the body. As a vibration, gold clears resistance, pain, stuck energies. It is a karma free color to work with, also protective. Gold is also the energy of forgiveness.

White ~ A higher vibration, white will take you out of the body. It can show up in your space as unconscious energy. Your own true vibration isn’t ever at white, but you can be at white or work with white, often without knowing you are doing so. Contrary to popular belief, surrounding yourself with white light doesn’t protect you. It takes you out of your body, and that isn’t protective for you or your body. Try color instead, especially gold.

Silver ~ Higher than white, silver is also not your true vibration. Silver in your space, as an energy, can be uncomfortable for you and make it difficult for your own energy to be in your space. If you find silver in your space, send it to the earth and try color.

Grey ~ Is a dull unconscious energy in your space, never your own vibration. It can create a muffled unconsciousness that makes it difficult to see or think clearly, and is harsh for your body.

Black ~ Black energy is generally pain, punishment, or some other dark uncomfortable energy that is in the way of yours. Black energy can also show up with depression. Sometimes white unconscious energy covers the black. None of this is your own truth, though it is true that you can sometimes handle it in your space. Let it go, and use happy colors instead.

10 energies to heal yourself with

1. Gratitude ~ This is a powerhouse energy, in and of itself. When you adopt this one as your daily companion, it’s difficult for you to be shut down. Finding gratitude for what you have, who you know, and who you are, including gratitude for your body – can help you to see the bigger picture and greater possibilities. See it, and it can become yours.

2. Forgiveness ~ Much like gratitude, forgiveness is a powerful energy, the super anti-oxidant of energies. Just as a powerful anti-oxidant will knock bad cells out of your body and keep you healthy, forgiveness can help you knock out dark heavy unhappy energies from your spirit. When you forgive someone for anything, you take your own power back. You cease being a victim. When you forgive yourself, you no longer hold yourself back from your own life. 3. Permission ~ Permission to do or become, all begins within you. If you’ve been waiting for permission to come to you from someone else, stop waiting. All that waiting will only have you collecting dust. Meanwhile, those around you who have decided to seize permission for themselves are living their lives the way they see fit. There is no blueprint; you are making it up as you go along on your journey. If you are following a script that says to wait for someone to tell you it’s time to spring into action, you are being controlled. It’s time to burn that old script and write your own.

4. Amusement ~ Another super powerhouse of an energy, amusement is one of the highest spiritual energies you can have within yourself. When in amusement, you will allow other difficult energies to simply melt away. They won’t bother you. It’s easier to see clearly, to not take it all personally, to release the chains that bind you, spiritually. It’s difficult to be controlled or lied to, when you’re amused.

5. Self Love ~ When you decide that you are already great, just as you are; when you decide you are worthy of love just because you exist; when you accept yourself, flaws and all – that is when you have found love for yourself. Life is so much easier, even the difficult parts, when you can have this for yourself. You won’t have to create situations in which you try to prove yourself worthy of love, because you won’t need to prove it if you already know it, within.

6. Being in the present ~ Everything is happening now, in this moment. You can’t do what you want yesterday, and tomorrow isn’t here yet. You are creating tomorrow, right now in this moment, with every choice and attitude you take and make. Present time is always where your body is, and if you want to find present time for yourself, find your body. Present time is a miracle. This is where you learn, create, grow, choose, change, and actually live.

7. Letting Go ~ This is necessary in order to create space enough to create anything new. If you’ve been holding onto everything and have a difficult time with this one, you already know how hard it can be to release ties to the past – to people, jobs, and especially old self images. Letting go is another powerhouse of an energy. Becoming conscious about what you’ve been holding onto is healing for you. You may find that what you thought you needed to hold onto, is actually holding you back from your next steps, and from your life as you’d like it to be.

8. Truth ~ Make it your habit and your goal to be in your truth. Speak the truth as you know it to be, and live it too. Notice which people and situations help you to be in your truth, and which ones take you away from it. Notice the energy of honest people, and how you feel being around them. Keep a journal in which you only write the truth to yourself, and write down things that you honestly want and feel. Write down where you’ve not been as truthful as you’d like to be, and forgive yourself for it. Being honest requires strength, and we are all encouraged to lie rather than confront others with our truth, and run the risk of hurting their feelings or making them uncomfortable. Social niceties have made liars of us all, when we’ve allowed them to.

9. Happiness ~ It is truly amusing that people even debate whether happiness is possible, or practical, or desirable, or deserved, etc. Happiness is an energy, and a choice. It is possible to decide to have a happy attitude. Happiness isn’t a perfect energy, though you can find yourself perfectly happy some days, and why not? Happiness is also a present time energy. It is interesting that the pursuit of happiness is in the United States Constitution as one of our rights. Do you also have it as one of your own personal rights? What if you were to write your own Spiritual Constitution, complete with your own Bill of Rights? Do you have the right to be happy?

10. Your own energy ~ This is the best energy to heal yourself with. It’s the best energy you can have within you. It’s the energy that was made for you, and it’s unique in all of creation. Your own energy is not flawed, but sometimes you might take on other energies that get in the way of yours. The way to begin to have more of your own energy within you, is to get to know yourself – to love, accept, forgive, and be honest about what you want and who you are. Meditation is one thing that can help you with this. Everything else on this list can also help you to find your own energy. Wanting to know and have your own energy is the first step towards doing it.

Music and body awareness in teaching and performing

I’ve always loved music, and there are many reasons for that, but one of my favorites is that music has the power to connect the mind and spirit to the body. When you hear a piece of music that appeals to you, it’s almost impossible to resist the urge to start moving to the beat. Even with classical music, it’s easy to feel your body’s movements becoming more fluid as you listen to a masterpiece like Tchaikovsky’s Nutcracker Suite. And then there’s dance music, which is intended to provide a soundtrack to people’s movement. Whether you’re break-dancing or doing the waltz, music that’s written for the body transports you to a place where you’re connected to yourself. It’s a beautiful thing, but it often goes overlooked, even though it’s one of the best ways I’ve found to feel truly alive.

The Body Connection: Teaching Music
I’ve taken several courses in piano pedagogy, even attending a class with Musikgarten visionary Dr. Lorna Heyge, where I learned how to use music to appeal to young children’s discovery of themselves through movement. It’s almost impossible to get a child interested in music if you tell him or her to simply sit still and listen to the notes. That doesn’t work, but facilitating dancing and moving to the beat will catch and hold a child’s attention. Music suddenly becomes the connection between mind and body, a novel idea for a child and one that more adults should incorporate into their lifestyles.

Using body movement to teach music has innumerable benefits, but it can be surprising to realize how profoundly it can affect a growing child’s life. Children require movement in order to grow in a healthy way, and with today’s sedentary lifestyles, that can be more of a challenge than you might think. Simply moving and dancing to music can improve a child’s development and growth as well as mood. As children get older, learning to improve their hand-eye coordination with music is another important benefit. Even more incredibly, neuroscience educator Dee Joy Coulter, Ed.D describes the combination of music and movement as a vital training process that can prepare children to “bounce back from a disturbing event” later in life. She states that humans are not born with resiliency – it’s a learned mental resource, and moving to music is one way to obtain it.

Even before I learned how to teach young children about music using movement, I was a firm believer in the connective power of music. Now, I love to see the smiles on children’s faces when I help teach a music and movement class, and I’ve even adapted the techniques for use in my own piano studio. For example, teaching note values without rhythmic movement is a hopeless (or slow at best) cause. I always employ clapping, stomping, and chanting when I’m teaching a young student how to read music, and I find that it’s much more effective than visual and oral instruction alone. The combination of music and movement is an untapped educational resource that has revolutionized my piano instruction techniques.

The Role of Body Awareness in Music Performance
I’m more of a teacher now than a performer, but I love to put on a little concert every once in a while. I do remember that when I was earning my piano performance degree, I performed at least once a week for my studio and about every other week for the whole music department. Then there were juries, which meant performing for the music faculty to earn a semester grade and the right to move up to the next level. There was certainly a lot of stress involved, especially for someone who was never comfortable with performance. However, after two years of struggling, I found a way to improve my focus and shut out the stress of the performance situation: yoga.

The professor who was in charge of my studio started requiring everyone to attend at least one yoga session after she discovered it one summer. I thought she was crazy and that it would be a waste of my time – she was eccentric, after all – but I found that her rants about the connection between music performance and body awareness weren’t so baseless. In fact, the process of actively slowing my breathing and relaxing my entire body before a performance became a ritual that helped me to overcome the stress of the situation. I even began to feel more connected to my body when I played, and I went from having faculty members describe my playing as “violent” to being complimented on my fluid movements. Thanks to body awareness, the piano is no longer under attack and I feel much more comfortable when I perform.

Music and movement are inseparable entities, and body awareness is just one benefit of that relationship. I’m grateful every day for the opportunity to spend time with music, my own body, and students who enjoy music and movement as much as I do.

Their energy, that is. Instead of being completely present, your friend (relative, workmate, boss, acquaintance, client…) is occupied by things other than you and your present time communication. Instead of being present, his energy is wandering off into endless texting, phone calls, or other distractions. Perhaps she isn’t really listening, or giving anything back. You may have the feeling that you are talking to yourself. This can be frustrating, especially when you came to discuss something important to you, or have contact with another human being.

You can get the feeling that perhaps, to this other person, your communication really isn’t very important, not their priority at the moment. It can feel like you aren’t really being seen or listened to, which is invalidating to experience.

Many of the people who are able to effortlessly earn your attention (and your loyalty) are the ones who know how to bring spirit to their communication. They give of themselves by being present. They know how to say hello to you, and to others too. Think of the teachers, friends, workmates, acquaintances, you’ve had in your life who were special to you, or still are. Their ability to be emotionally available, real, and honest, could have been what attracted you to them. They know how to be present, how to make each person feel special and heard. They know how to give of themselves.

Some people seem naturally gifted at this – call them charismatic. But if you have a hard time doing the same, finding yourself shy or holding back for some reason, it’s a great opportunity to ask yourself, what do these outgoing people know that you don’t?

Perhaps they can see you without judgment, see your spirit, your true energy. Maybe they don’t let shyness or insecurities get in their way when they meet strangers. Perhaps they are safe enough to be in unfamiliar situations. They might not be as sensitive to rejection or other people’s energies as you are.

If there are people who continually do not show up when you meet – they send their body but forget to come with it – you may want to ask yourself some questions, such as: why do you keep making plans to meet with someone who isn’t there?

Change your energy and change your life

You are made of energy. Every part of you is energy: body and spirit. Your intellect, emotions, creativity, abilities, and all the rest, are energy.

There’s energy in everything you do, say, feel, and decide to have. The way you communicate with the world around you has a certain energy. Your creative expression, your personal taste, your relationships with others, your health, finances, you name it – all have energy.

Everyone else has their own energy too, different from yours. We are each unique, each of us has a distinctive energy. This is one good reason why each of us is valuable, why we are all needed and wanted here. You came to this lifetime to bring something, and you give valuable gifts to everyone when you learn how to become who you truly are. You don’t need to match to or become, anyone else.

When you know and have your own true energy working for you, you can have your life the way you want it much more effortlessly. If you have been challenged, if it’s been hard to know who you are, if you feel overwhelmed and inundated by the energy of others, you can change this.

By becoming aware of energy, and especially your own, you change the energy that you are in, and the energy that is in you. You can start to make your own energy the most important energy inside of you. After all, your energy is intended to be with you, not scattered all about in everyone else’s space. When more of your own energy is inside of you and validated, creating your own life becomes more fun and less effort to do.

Having meditation as a regular part of your life can really get things rolling in the right direction for you. When you commit to a regular meditation practice, you are in effect saying to yourself that you want to become more conscious and present. The present time is where your body is, and the more of your energy you can bring here to be with your body, the easier things get.
