Reinvention, rest, and new creations

I’ve needed some time away to regroup, rest, think, and heal. After going gang-busters all year, (since my last publicly declared reinvention in January), I’m now working on the next phase of what’s coming.

My body cooperated by coming down with a nasty bug this week and forcing me to rest. I needed to take time off to heal myself. While healing, I read a brilliant book that I hope will be read by millions of you too, ‘Linchpin’ by Seth Godin. Reading Seth’s book reminded me of the everyday psychics that exist, whether or not they call themselves ‘psychic’. This blog is called ‘Psychic Everyday’ for a very good reason. After all, you are one too, and so is anyone who wants to be. So is Seth Godin, though he may not ever call himself that.

I speak to and write about this topic frequently. One of my writing and blogging goals is to help others see that they do have natural abilities outside of what they were told are okay to have, and that they can use these abilities to create their lives to be more of what they want. I would also like to contribute to the reprogramming of the word ‘psychic’. This word is so often misunderstood and misused.

To that end, I’ll be posting a weekly article here under the category, ‘Everyday Psychic’. I’ll feature a different everyday psychic each week, tell who they are, what they do, and how I see them being psychic in the world. I will feature both the famous and the not so well known. Writers, filmmakers, healers, musicians, performers, artists, world leaders, spiritual teachers, environmental workers, bloggers, and so on. On occasion I will do an interview with someone.

Here’s where you can help: send me your suggestions. I’d love them. Who do you see in the world using their psychic abilities, and who would you like me to write about? I may not be able to get to every suggestion, but I will do my best. I’m not looking for the obvious here, as in actual psychics, though I may throw a few of them in. I’ll open this up down the road and publish reader’s stories here as well. For example, ‘my second grade teacher was a great healer because she…’.

As for reinvention, I hope yours is coming along nicely. We are in the time of reinvention. Write yourself a big fat permission slip and invent away. You are the one who gets to become who you want to be, and only you can find the way. I hope the stories about other everyday psychics will help you to see yourself, and your own power.

Beginning tomorrow, the weekly Everyday Psychic begins with Seth Godin. I was reading his great book when I thought of this, so he gets to be first.

I’m talking about your full potential…

I was recently interviewed by James Rick, founder of the Full Potential Show, on what it takes to be psychic.

James posted the interview on his site today. In the 25 minute interview, I talk about how I began as a psychic, what my training was like, and what advice I have to offer to others who might like to follow this path. I also give a few pointers on how to get in touch with your body so that you can access the abilities you have within you already.

Please go and check it out, and leave a comment if you can. I can promise you a fun and energetic interview to watch, and thanks for doing so.

Here is the link to the interview: Kris Cahill on the Full Potential Show.

Here is the link to InVision, the school I trained and taught at, located in Chicago. If you are looking for a great clairvoyant training, InVision has the best I know of.

Enjoy!

How to be safe while being psychic

Today’s Psychic Question was asked by a reader concerned about being safe enough to have her psychic abilities on:

Q: I feel like when I open up psychically, I’m afraid I will lose my health or get sick. How do I protect myself and my physical health when I open up psychically?

Being psychic means being sensitive to, and aware of, energy. Everything is made of energy, so if you are extra sensitive to the energies in your environment, it can be really tough to have your abilities on and working for you. You may decide it’s not worth the trouble, especially if you continually run into energies that feel frightening or punishing to you.

The good news is that you can have an awareness of other energies, and you don’t have to pay such a steep price to have your psychic abilities working for you. Being sensitive to energy does not mean you have to be run over by it as well.

Here are a few suggestions as to how you might protect yourself better so you can be safe and well:

1. Let go of any resistance you might have towards the energies you are afraid of handling. When you are in resistance to an energy, it will stick to you. By not resisting, you give the energy nowhere to land in your space. This can be trickier than it seems. Some ways to let go of resistance include: letting go of control over a situation; using forgiveness; releasing responsibility for something you really have no control over to begin with.

2. Learn to ground yourself, and practice this technique daily. Grounding is a technique in which you connect your body to the earth. Grounding makes your body safe, which is crucial to you being safe enough to have your own abilities on and running for you. Grounding also makes it possible to release the energies you’ve taken on that are not yours. Grounding is healing and makes it possible to manifest what it is you want.

3. When energy gets out of control and is uncomfortable in your space, you may unconsciously turn all of your abilities up in order to find a way to protect yourself. This will actually have the opposite effect. Visualize a way to turn your own abilities down, perhaps a knob or dial. When the energies you are handling get uncomfortable, imagine turning your abilities down to a more comfortable setting. If you are feeling too wide open, you probably are.

4. Find some amusement with the energies you are handling. Often this energy invalidates you, which is how it controls. This is not your truth, though it may be true you are handling the energy. If you don’t give up space to the energy coming in, if you can find some neutrality with it, you are that much closer to getting its effects out of your space. Let go of needing to solve, explain, or be okay with this energy. If it is hurting you, it needs to be let go of, period. You do not need permission from it to do so. You can be in charge here.

5. Your body is yours, and the more you are in it, the more protected it is. Find ways you can, every day, heal and protect your own body. If a certain food seems to bring on a sensitivity, pay attention to that, you may need to avoid this food. If certain people do the same, ditto. It’s up to you. You have the power to own your own abilities and use them for yourself. You can choose to do so.

Psychic Question Mondays: being psychic

shell-WMThis Week’s Question: How did you know you are psychic?

Though this question is often directed at me personally, it’s really more about the person asking it. He or she is interested in psychic energy and abilities, and has probably had some experiences with them. There is a desire to know more. Often the questioner is trying to make sense of her or his own experiences: are they real?

Years before I became aware of my own abilities and trained them, I was fascinated with psychic energy. I didn’t get a psychic reading until I was in my late 20’s, and then only because a lot of women I knew were getting readings from a local psychic and raving about her. She is very famous now, and has always had a good and clean reputation.

Before I saw her, I was fascinated by and also somewhat fearful about getting a psychic reading. I believed two things about being psychic: the first thing was that one had to already be that way from birth, actually born into a special psychic family. The second thing was that I, sadly, wasn’t  born this way so couldn’t be a psychic. If anyone had told me 25 years ago that that’s exactly what I would be doing now, I’d have had a hard time believing them. Another reason I don’t predict the future!

I wasn’t afraid of psychics so much as I was afraid of my own abilities, something I understand more completely now.

Human have psychic abilities; they are part of whatever else one has. and like other talents and abilities, it takes practice and often training to develop them. You may be born with musical talent, but you still have to practice your instrument! Being psychic has precious little to do with making predictions or telling people what to do. The greatest use of one’s own abilities is to see oneself, create healing within, and use these valuable abilities to create one’s life.

How I healed: I went to InVision, a school in Chicago where my abilities were validated and said hello to. I learned how to ground myself, and to begin to release the energies I’d been taking on my whole life that invalidated those abilities. I learned how to become safe enough to open up on a psychic level, and to turn on my clairvoyance. I learned how much fun it could be to do this, and began to learn so much more about myself than I’d ever thought I would. Daily meditation practice, and releasing negative energies, make it possible to have one’s own abilities without interference.

Future posts will cover this topic much more in detail.
